FAQ's

Q: How are you?
A: Fine, thanks; and you?

Q: What kind of dressing would you like with your salad?
A: I'll have the no-fat honey mustard.

Q: Isn't this FAQ page supposed to be about your novel?
A: Oh, yes. Of course.

Q: What is your book about?
A: It is a good vs. evil "last days" novel of suspense written primarily for adults.

Q: Did the two of you actually write it together?
A: Yes. After we were married, I found Daniel's finished draft in a cardboard box. It was a good story that needed some editing, I thought. With his encouragement, I first tentatively changed periods to commas, but as our time went by and our relationship matured, I began to move sections around, create and eliminate characters, and develop dialogue. By the time we started another revision while on our boat in Fiji, I was rewriting most of the book. Every day after some hours, Daniel would have me read the changes, and then we would argue it out until we were both satisfied. It is definitely a co-authored book.

Q: Isn't it just like the Left Behind Series?
A: No. It is very unlike that set of books. Ours is a single book, a fiction, a thriller. While very scriptural in its own way, it does not try to make a story of the Revelations.

Q: So is this a Christian book?
A: Yes, because it is a book written by Christians. Yet it does not preach. It is a good story which we think will appeal to the general market. There is no blatant sex, and we found creative substitutes for the expletives our characters wanted to say. In other words, no sex and no swearing. It should please the Christian market, and it pleases us, too.

Q: Why did you decide to go with iUniverse.com? Isn't that self-publishing? If it is such a good book, why didn't you get an agent?
A: Several years ago, we began to discover what a difficult job it is to find an agent. And once you find one, the agent needs to find a publisher. After that, it takes a year or more to get the book into print. Alternatively, we could spend the next couple of years promoting our book. We wanted to have this project finished so we could begin the fun of marketing it and the work of writing other projects. www.iuniverse.com, a print-on-demand publisher, has been a good choice for us. They have a variety of packages depending on your needs. If you decide to use them, be sure to mention our names, because we get a reward for the referral.

Q: Would you accept the services of an agent?
A: We certainly would. iUniverse would boast about our success in finding a traditional publisher, also.

Q. What other projects do you have in mind?
A. Of course, we want to use our sailing voyage to the Fiji Islands in a variety of pieces. Two articles have already been accepted by the fine journal, Blue Water Sailing-the first one, "Shipwrecked in Fiji" will be published in their January 2007 issue. Daniel wants to write a medical memoir, and I would like to do a family history since I am at the top of the oldest generation in our extended family. We would both like to write devotionals. Recently we are learning how to get our writing polished and published, and this is a great new adventure for us.
